do not call me Scandinavian-American

My father came here from Norway. But do not call me Scandinavian-American. I am a lucky American, born here, a citizen of the United States, even though one of my parents was not born here. So, when we say to someone, who had both parents born here, you are not American, you are African-American, isn't that implying that we think they are not as fully American as we are? I think when we hyphenate, we are dividing ourselves. After all, we all came from somewhere else.
